Answer    To    Youth    And    Age

Dear Lord, I ask,
with each new dawn,
as time, in life's book turns each page,
let not, with cruel steps, years march on,
in truth and wisdom,
let me age.

Let my head, wisdom's halo grace,
as I trade wings, much less mature,
for sweet reflections of thy face,
and feet which, on Thee, stand secure.

Let not the gentle cloud of age,
replace life's bold, and youthful thunder;
let not the fading of life's page,
replace the brightness of life's wonder.

Yet this, my prayer, in each endeavor,
save for wisdom, and for truth,
let me embrace, now, and forever,

this wondrous, willing, heart of youth!
