The Mile
Put my little hands in yours and talk with me a while,
I need to feel your power and strength, before love walks that mile.
Life is hardly fair; you knew that from the start,
You always showed me that you cared, though man's love always broke my heart.
You knew of all I'd do to hurt you, but still, you took that cross,
And paid for everything I've done, you didn't count the cost.
The love I show to others is so weak compared with yours,
I still feel so much anger, and inside I still keep scores.
You knew I wouldn't have a thing to give you in return,
You only asked that I would hear your voice and try to learn.
I'm sorry for the idols I kept in my heart before you,
I'll try to stay more true to you, and show that I adore you.
Put my little hands in yours and talk with me a while,
It looks like true love's idols are going to walk that painful mile.
Please give me strength to pay the cost I know is really low,
Compared to what you paid for me and all the sins I've done, you know.
And if I break and this is where you want my life to end,
I only ask you take me to yourself, and call me friend.
