If    I    Wrote    the    Headlines

If I wrote the headlines,
no-one would have the blues,
for there would be one day a week,
dedicated to good news.

One day without a shooting,
a bombing, or the like,
one day when all were unashamed,
to stand for what is right.

It would be a day when politicians,
only told the truth,
with front-page photos of white cloud castles,
and the innocence of youth.

When soldiers and civilians,
knew not the threat of war,
and people by the hundred millions,
killed and mamed no more!

At least, one day a week when right,
would triumph over wrong,
Then, maybe I'd be asked to write,
the headlines all week long.

For life's great editor, the Holy Spirit,
would govern what was said,
All glory would go to the author of life,
the universe's head.
He is the Father, God alone,
and, Jesus is His Son,
and all would know of the rolled-back stone,
and the victory He won.

Though we write not with ink and pen,
of worldly strife and need,
each day of our lives is a headline,
that someone's going to read.
Do they see our Savior's picture?
What do we make them think?
A well-written life example,
will out-last pen and ink.

May we always remember,
as we start each brand new day,
that the world is looking expectantly,
for what the headlines say.
Let not our headlines of every day,
always tell of woe and loss,
but, let us show a more gentle way,
by the light of the precious, old Rugged cross.
